Hi beautiful loves,
So I love to read, but I don’t always make time. Luckily when I do, I happen to gravitate towards books that help me feel fulfilled or learn about myself. That is why I want to share with you Three Books that Changed my Life!
I shall begin with “You are a Badass” by Jen Sincero, because well, I was reading this book one night at Agora, in a corner (upstairs on the left side of the shop, there’s a desk that faces the corner), when I decided to start my blog. After a lot of rejection, I decided to finally do what I LOVE. Enough allowing others to dictate my opportunities and potential! I am grateful for having read this book when I did.
I love that Sincero questions the idea that I have thought to myself for the longest. That is, what exactly are you wishing for and when exactly did you brainwash yourself into thinking it was too crazy of a dream, unobtainable or that you are not good enough?
If you are looking for motivation, read this book.
“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
“Because so often when we say we’re unqualified for something, what we’re really saying is that we’re too scared to try it, not that we can’t do it.”
“There will never be anyone exactly like you. You were given special gifts and talents to share with the world, and even though everybody has special gifts and talents, nobody will use theirs quite the same way you do.”
“Keep your thoughts directed at your goal, do everything that you DO know how to do to make it happen, decide with unwavering determination that it will happen, and be on the lookout for the opportunity.”
“Every single person is born with unique and valuable gifts to share with the world. Once we figure out what ours are, and decide to live our lives putting them to use, that’s when, and only when, the real party begins.”
The next book I want to share with you is “Better than Before” by Gretchen Rubin. Rubin is a happiness guru. She spends her days trying to find hacks for a happier life. And guess what? A happier life does not require millions in the bank and a perfect body! Well, maybe it does? Whatever happiness may be, this book discusses how to obtain your desires through habits.
What you do everyday shapes your life. What you do everyday is considered a habit. She presents four personality types she refers to as “tendencies”. When you know which tendency you are, you will reach your maximum potential, because you will tailor your habits around your tendency.
Find your tendency here.
“The desire to start something at the “right” time is usually just a justification for delay. In almost every case, the best time to start is now.”
“How we schedule our days is how we spend our lives.”
“To a truly remarkable extent, we’re more likely to do something if it’s convenient, and less likely if it’s not. For this reason, we should pay close attention to the convenience of any activity we want to make into a habit.”
“A finish line marks a stopping point. Once we stop, we must start over, and starting over is harder than continuing.”
The last book is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. I’ve been referred to this book so many times, and I now know why. It’s genius! This book tells the story about a boy trying to realize his dream. It sounds simple, but Coelho wrote this story in a way that almost seems to be magic. No matter who you are, where you are from and what you are facing, the examples and riddles in this book will directly apply to your life.
This is the type of book that you can read 10 times and each time you will discover a new meaning that you can interpret to help with your personal struggles and dreams.
“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”
“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too.”
“You will never be able to escape from your heart. So it’s better to listen to what it has to say.”
“Intuition is really a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life.”
