How to Stay Inspired as a Blogger (or as a person with a passion)

Hey loves,

I know that several of you who visit me here are fellow bloggers.

First of all, it sounds so weird to call myself a “blogger”, because it is not my job, it is a hobby. But what do you have to do to be a blogger? Well blog. And we all know (once you start one) that it is ton of work and a big investment (time wise and monetary) to maintain a website.

It means that you have to be committed and inspired to keep going.

Now let’s talk inspiration and hesitations…

When you started your blog, you were super excited, full of ideas, energy, beginner’s luck, but as time passed you may have started to run low on some resources. Now you don’t feel as inspired. How do you fix that?

Let’s go back to basics:

Why do you have a Blog? (Or partake in your passion)

Personally, I have a blog, because it is a creative outlet, and I love empowering other women. I wanted a space that was positive yet realistic. It is important for my readers to know that we all have hardships, but it’s about how we deal with them. And lastly, I love to feel fly as heil, so I wanted to share the how-to’s, finds and tips with you.

So now that you know WHY you have a blog, you can figure out your next steps…

Perhaps you aren’t feeling as inspired, because you’ve set goals for your blog that you are not reaching. Before you get too upset and give up, think:

“Are my goals realistic?”

“What action steps am I taking towards these goals?”

“Do I need to try something new?”

When you’re constantly setting goals for yourself, things remain interesting. With that comes inspiration! A tip I have is to set goals, and break them into pieces this way you see progress sooner.

Speaking of goals, many times with goals comes comparison.

You want what SHE has. She accomplished YOUR goal.

I know you’ve heard this a million times, but really, DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS.

If you waste your energy comparing, you won’t get anywhere. Instead try to think of ways to better yourself and your content/craft.

Also, do not fall for the illusion that you have to be JUST like the person you admire.

I did this. I felt like I needed to post on here 5x a week, because that is what the cool bloggers are doing. I felt like the only way to keep my readers engaged was to post a gazillion outfits (which makes sense if you have a strictly fashion blog).

Well guess what!?

  1. I can post whenever the heck I want (Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays BTW haha. Come see me. Subscribe LOL).
  2. I don’t need to post new, current outfits several times a week (or even a day), because that is NOT realistic for me. I have a budget, I help my family, I got rent! And it’s OK! 🙂

That is why reflecting on WHY you blog (or do anything) is important.

When I reflected, I realized that the main purpose of my blog is to help you with your spirits, self-confidence and to understand that we all face adversity, but we will over come it. It was SO inspirational for me!

Now you know WHY you blog, you have goals and are concentrating on yourself. Awesome!

But BAM something else comes your way…

The next few challenges happen to many bloggers:

They either burn out. Get bored with their content. Run low on resources. Life.

No worries, if you burn out, take a break. You’re human. Come back when you’re ready. 🙂

If you are bored, try a new style of blogging. Think about what you would find interesting, and write about it. It’s ok to start a new series or an entire new blog if that is what you want to do.

You’re low on resources i.e. you don’t have a camera, you want a better web design, you don’t know how to do something. Well work! Get a second job. Research the Internet. Get creative. Hustle! Too many unnecessary excuses. You’ve got this, just gotta work. #toughlovebecauseIlovya

If life happens, well it happens. If something else is priority handle it, and then go back to posting. Don’t feel frazzled because you left. Come back even with a short and sweet post, and you will start to get your juices flowing again.

Haters

This piece, I almost did not include because quite frankly, I’d not thought about it. At the end of the day, someone’s negative opinion only reflects their outlook on life and of themselves… not you. And like I said here it’s ok for some people not to like you. The ones that are meant to find you, will. So keep doing what makes YOU happy. 🙂

THE HAPPY FEELS- Resources and Strategies that WORK

These are some of the tried and true tactics that keep me inspired:

I read, watch and listen to blogging content.

Among my favorite are the Simply Stylist Youtube page. They discuss REAL LIFE blogger strategies like how to monetize, pitching to brands and creating a media kit. You will also find bloggers sharing their personal stories, which is super motivational.

I love listening to the Pro Blogger Podcast, because you learn so much about the behind-the-scenes of the industry.

I look at blogs. Not to compare, but to admire.

I study my own progress, and I don’t mean just numbers. I mean the quality of my engagement. I rather have 2 readers that CARE than 2567788654 followers that don’t give a rat’s…

Plus you never know who is watching!

Personal story here: My readership started to drop, which was disappointing. (I was going through a domanin change.) Funny enough when I felt like no one was reading, I had Houstonia Mag reach out to me about a feature opportunity! So like I said, it is not about your numbers (not entirely) but your engagement. Keep trying to improve, and post content you love.

Be Yourself

The hardest part of blogging or anything in life is to be uniquely you. It may seem like a lot of bloggers do the same things, and you may want to jump on board, because it is the popular option. The people like it. Is it you though? Where do you draw the fine line between doing what the readers like and doing what you like?

They have to be one in the same. 🙂

You will see that the right readers will find you as long as you provide value. That alone will inspire you so much!

Hope this helps any of my fellow bloggers when you are in need of inspiration or need a boost of motivation to continue on your journey.

Feel free to leave your blog url below so myself and others can go check it out!

Bisous

I loved this post so much! As a new blogger all of these points have been flooding my mind lately. Staying true to our own unique selves has been my vision from the beginning, but it is definitely hard work to keep it that way with everything around you. I find myself constantly stepping back and reminding myself of my vision to help stay on track. Thank you for sharing your heart and experience with us. Have a good one. http://texturesofgrace.com/

I loved this!! When I first started playing with the idea of blogging I questioned myself a lot. My style isn’t colorful,I don’t wear much or any prints, and I wear sneakers 90% of the time. I was afraid people wouldn’t read along or follow because of that, but I wanted to be myself and keep true to my style. Im glad I did.
