I make a conscious effort to only buy clothing pieces I will wear constantly.
With that being said, I know that for special events we tend to buy pieces that are not only pricey, but hang in our closets only to collect dust.
Despite my usual disposition, when my best friend requested that we rent our bridesmaid dresses, not buy, I was a little apprehensive.
I was apprehensive because I was not sure what to expect.
What if it didn’t look good on me?
What if it did not arrive on time?
What if it was removed from stock the day before the wedding?
Isn’t it a waste of money to rent and not own?
Totally understandable hesitations. Luckily, everything worked out!
As you can see in the photos, all 4 of us bridesmaids felt very comfortable in our rented gowns! We all have completely different shapes, and yet the style suited everyone.
I will leave my particular rental details at the bottom of the post.
Renting dresses is also convenient in other instances.
For example, my two friends Karina and Saira ended up renting as well!
We all received $30 discount codes for recommending each other. We paid about $60 or less which was a lot less than what I would have paid to buy a gown for a wedding.
If you want me to send you this discount as well, just leave a comment, or email me so that I can do that for you.
Karina’s Experience: She ordered several dresses online from different sites, but she was not convinced. The week before the wedding she opted out for the green, gorgeous lace gown you see her wearing in the group photo above. It hugged her figure just right and made her look and feel elegant and sexy.
Saira’s Experience: She also opted out last minute, because she did not have time to go look for a dress in store, and she simply finds it easier to shop online. You can see in the photo below that she also looked stunning! The color was perfect for the summer season.
Times I recommend renting:
- You are in love with a gown that is ridiculously pricey, and you know you will only wear once.
- You are in between sizes i.e. a weight loss journey, post pregnancy, a little heavier than your usual or even tinier than what you prefer. Since you plan on changing your shape, there is no reason to spend on something that won’t fit in a few months.
- You will be matching with others. I’m too grown to own the same dress as 3 of my closest girlfriends HA.
- You’re on a time crunch.
The site my friends and I used Rent the Runaway guarantees that the dress will fit, and that you will like it! They send two sizes for you to try on. You can order an express shipment of a different size and or style if you are not satisfied with your initial order.
The only thing I would be weary of are return rules…
My event was on a Sunday. You can choose from 4 or 8-day rentals. I chose the 4 so I received my dress on a Friday night, and I had to get it to a UPS by noon on that following Monday.
I can see how this could be inconvenient for someone who works and can’t find time to return that next morning. In that case, I would go with the 8-day rental, but it is pricier. I wish they offered the Monday drop-off until end of day. I’m unsure about what the fee would be to return it after 12.
At least the dresses come in a really cool packaging with a return label ready to go.
I would also say to pass on the accessory and purse rentals. Personally, I think that is a little much and overpriced. I’m not keen on spending $30 on necklace I can probably BUY for the same price. That’s just me though, because I am not a brand w**re.
Overall, I would highly suggest renting a dress, especially if you use the $30 discount code like the one I received, or if any of the reasons I mentioned above pertain to you.`
If you have any questions, let me know. I would be happy to answer them. 🙂
Have you rented a dress before? How was your experience?
My rental was the Badgley Mischka Award Winner Gown in a size 2 petite. These dresses run big. I’m usually a 4.
P.S. This isn’t a sponsored post. I paid for my order, and RTR doesn’t know I exist HAHA.
